On June 8th, 1994, at 12.30 pm, the Drawing Room at the Regent Hotel in London was ready to introduce the fifth actor to play James Bond – Brosnan, Pierce Brosnan.
This concluded not only five years of speculation and doubts regarding the return of Ian Fleming's secret agent to the cinemas, but also proved to be a moment of personal satisfaction for the Irish actor, whose late wife –'For Your Eyes Only' actress Cassandra Harris, who died in 1991– had always hoped to see him playing 007. Brosnan saw his first opportunity to become Bond in 1986 for 'The Living Daylights', but contractual issues with 'Remington Steele' frustrated his chances even after being cast in the role, which ultimately went for Timothy Dalton. Now, he was ready to become the James Bond that would mark a generation spanning the late 1990s and the early days of the new millennium.
To celebrate this day, Wolfram Books gives the Special Edition Treatment to 'For England, James' and 'Straight Up, With A Twist'. First released in 2020, 'For England, James' consists of a detailed analysis to Pierce Brosnan's 007 debut film 'GoldenEye' from 1995. In this edition, you will find an extra section dedicated to the Nintendo 64 video game based on the movie and how it also homaged other films from the franchise. For those interesting in 007 Brosnan's ladies, 'Straight Up, With A Twist' deals with the relationship between Bond and his female companions and makes a case on why these women were more important than you remember. Wolfram's Special Edition also adds an extra chapter on Judi Dench's M, the first female superior 007 has served to.
The books are now available on the ZOOM Platform store and all of the Wolfram catalogue –including these new releases– will have a 17% discount until June 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm (PST).
